Construction of 40,000 m² concrete hardenings Lidl - Southampton (UK)

Client:                               Bouwbedrijf Van de Ven
Implementation period:   2016

Outside our national borders, in the South-England port of Southampton, construction company Van de Ven realised a distribution centre for supermarket chain Lidl. DEN OUDEN GROEP provided 40,000 m² of concrete road construction consisting of a ring road, a loading dock,
and parking spaces. It is one of our specialisations. The challenge with this project was mostly in the lead time, namely in terms of the production speed of the concrete mortar. In England, the capacity of concrete plants is lower than in the Netherlands. In the Netherlands, we are more
focused on efficiency and shorter construction times, and we have younger plants with larger capacities. In the Netherlands, we would work with a width of 10 metres at a time, while in England we were working with a width of 5 metres at a time. A high-quality outdoor hardening,
resistant to frost and road salt, making it very durable, requiring very little maintenance!
