Restoring tidal wetlands Rammegors, St. Philipsland

Client: Kuipers Infra and the Department of Waterways and Public Works
Period of construction: 2013-2014

The Department of Waterways and Public Works wants to make a water gate in the Krabbenkreekdam to connect the Rammegors to the Oosterschelde. The nature reserve would be flooded, which should create valuable salt marshes and mud flats. At the end of August 2013, Den Ouden started with the removal of 63 acres of trees and shrubbery. Subsequently, ditches were dug to allow the water of the Oosterschelde to flow into the area more easily.

The removed trees and shrubbery were cut down to make wood chips. These wood chips were transported to biomass processing plants in the local area.
